Small Ways to Feel Better

Ever have one of those days when you just felt “off”? Your body doesn’t feel good, food doesn’t taste right, little things annoy you and you just feel like there is a dark cloud hanging over your head? Of course you have, you’re human.

So how do you get yourself out of these funky funks when all you want to do is curl up on the sofa with a bag or red licorice (Twizzlers are the BEST!) and binge on rom-coms.

While the solution is different for everyone because, well, we are all very different beings inhabiting this earth, I want to share a few small ways to instantly feel better. Big credit goes out to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition for not only creating this beautiful list (I’ve added my own personal comments!), but also for teaching me how to be a Health Coach so that I can help you! ❤️

  • Brush your teeth

  • Go for a walk

  • Drink lemon water

  • Do a short workout

  • Light a candle

  • Take a shower (gamechanger)

  • Give a compliment (to a random person on the street!)

  • Make a ginger tea (or if you’re me, green tea all the way)

  • Gratitude list

  • Take yourself out (breakfast, lunch, diner, ice cream!)

  • Have a good cry (sometimes we just need to let it all out)

  • Check off a task

  • Wash your face

  • Cook a healthy meal

  • Declutter a room (I’m a huge fan of a big room purge, less is more)

  • Plan a coffee/tea date

  • Visit a local park (try grounding - walk in the grass barefoot)

  • Read a book

  • Do something kind (for yourself or for someone else)

  • Guided breathwork (so many free apps out there if we you are new to this practice)

  • Bake cookies (and then eat the damn cookie!)

  • Turn on good music (dance out that funky funk)

  • Hug a loved one (partner, dog, cat…)

Whatever you decide to do, be gentle on yourself. Taking a little break to get back to a better place mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually is perfectly normal so don’t ignore these feelings. Oftentimes, these funks have a way of coming in and moving out just like an ocean wave, it’s all about how we approach them and learn to move past them in a kind way.

Did I miss something in the list? What small things do you do to feel better? I’d love to hear your ideas so please share in the comments below!
