When was the last time you enjoyed a meal and didn't count up the calories in your head so that you knew if you were within your daily caloric intake range?

How many restrictive diets have you been on where you lost weight, gained it all back (and more), and felt like a failure for not having the willpower to stay on your diet?

Do you label foods as “good” or “bad”, telling yourself what you should and should not eat, while wishing you could eat a variety of foods without guilt?

What is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive Eating is an evidence-based model that focuses on developing a healthy relationship with food and one's body.  At écoutay wellness, we believe that everyone is born with an innate ability to regulate food intake and body weight, and that by listening to and trusting our body's internal cues, we can make food choices that nourish our body, satisfy our hunger, and enhance our overall well-being.

We need to stop punishing ourselves and remember that we know how to eat, we've just forgotten how to trust and listen to our body.

Intuitive Eating encourages you to rely on internal hunger and satiety cues, without judgment or guilt, eating for physical and not emotional reasons.  It also emphasizes the importance of eating a variety of foods, including those that may be considered "unhealthy" or "forbidden" in traditional dieting approaches.  The goal is to help you develop a positive and sustainable relationship with food and your body.

The path to embracing intuitive eating is usually a gradual process that unfolds over time - it’s a marathon, not a sprint.  Letting go of old habits and attitudes surrounding food and taking the risk to explore new ways of relating to both food and oneself can feel unsettling, especially if you have been restricting and dieting for years.  The transition to intuitive eating occurs gradually as you confront, question, and ultimately discard your old beliefs about food, nutrition, and eating, replacing them with new, healthier perspectives.

Change is possible, you just need to take the first step.
