Inspirational Vision Boards

A year or so ago, my husband and I had been talking about our personal and professional goals: where we saw ourselves in 5 years, dream travel destinations, and so on, because we had found ourselves in a bit of an inspiration slump. A few nights later, my husband came home from work with 2 poster boards under his arms and a stack of our favorite health, travel, architecture and fashion (ok, that was more for me!) magazines. Some of his colleagues had recently completed vision boards at work and he thought it would be a great idea that we do the same - brilliant!

We sat down at our dining table, scissors and glue sticks in hand, and started cutting out anything in the magazines that spoke to us - beautiful images, stunning homes, inspiring words, and gorgeous destinations. At first I was super selective, not sure if the words and images aligned with my goals or what I wanted in my life. It was kinda strange to not have anyone judge my decisions, or question my choices (yes, I still fear judgement from others, I am a constant work in progress). But, once I cleared my mind, and just let myself have fun, I was on a roll! Images of Paris, meditation, open-concept homes, vibrant food, and encouraging words like “Keep Trying” and “nourish Your Soul” jumped out of the pages. And over the next few hours, I started to dream about the possibilities, the “what ifs” and the “why nots”.

Currently, there is a lot of discussion regarding manifesting your dreams into reality. Vision boards are used by some of the great thought leaders of today: Gabby Bernstein, Deepka Chopra and even the queen herself - Oprah! Athletes, CEOs and entrepreneurs also use vision boards to train their focus and stay on target to reaching their goals. But you can’t just dream, you gotta do the work and make active changes in your life to turn those dreams reality. And having a daily reminder, a visual representation of your goals keeps you in alignment with your desires and helps you in your decision-making process.

Ready to create your own vision board? Here are a few helpful steps to get you started so that you too can use your vision board to help reach your health and wellness goals:

  1. Take a moment to think about what is most important to you right now. Maybe select one or two topics that are at the top of your list, you can even narrow it down to short-term and long-term goals if you want to make two vision boards.

  2. Grab some old magazines or head to the store and choose magazine titles that are of interest to you. Be sure you have a sturdy poster board, a glue stick and some scissors. If you prefer a virtual vision board, select online images and start a Pinterest page/category or use other image tools to create your board. You do you!

  3. Images are powerful, but so are inspiring quotes and words that represent your vision and goals so if it speaks to you, go for it!

  4. Once completed, place your vision board in an area where you can see it on a daily basis. Meditate on these images a few times a day and as your visions become reality, acknowledge your success with stamps or stickers on your vision board. My vision board is currently in my office, just to the right of my computer that I am sitting at right now. I see it every day and take great joy and happiness in knowing that a few of my dreams have become reality, and a few more are on the horizon.

Now that you have the basics, it’s time to get the creative juices flowing. There are no rules so just have fun with it!
