Listening to Your Body

OMG it has been rainy and cold and miserable in LA!

While the sun has finally made a grand reappearance today, earlier this week and all last weekend I thought I was living in the Pacific Northwest. Temps were below 45 degrees (very cold for California!), the rain was flooding the streets, and all I wanted to do was bundle up and watch tv - which I totally did. But my biggest gripe about the whole situation was how cold I was, I just couldn’t get or stay warm; I was “chilled to the bone”. I wasn’t craving something really hearty and filling, I just needed something to warm my bones that didn’t make me feel stuffed. What was I to do?

As an Intuitive Eater I paused, and listened to my body. I recognized that I wasn’t hungry, I had already eaten breakfast with my yummy tea, I was not ready for more food. I wanted something savory, not sweet. Something that required little to no chewing, that I could wrap my hands around to quell my Raynaud’s and warm the rest of my body. And that’s when I found what I was looking for - miso soup. It was perfect! We had dried packs from our favorite Japanese supermarket, and after boiling some water I had just what I needed in less than 5 minutes.

This mini meal was a great reminder of a key factor in Intuitive Eating - listening to your body. Your body has a brilliant computer inside of it and when we ignore it, we are not giving our body what it needs. So the next time you need a little snack between breakfast and lunch and you’re not sure what to have, pause, tune into your body, and the answer will present itself.

Share in the comments below your favorite warming dish or drink. Stay cozy out there!
